Workshop Wednesday Gaiden: Axe of the Black Labyrinth

This Workshop Wednesday is going to be a little bit different than normal. Namely, it’s clearly both completely out of the blue (Hi! I’m back!), doesn’t have a number assigned, and also not tied to a Monster Monday.

There’s a reason for that: keeping up with the old weekly content stream is, at the current point in my life, unsustainable. I’d much rather devote that level of dedication and free time to stuff I can publish on Pathfinder Infinite, since this blog and the Ko-fi I started have made me… basically no money.

It has helped me immensely with getting to the point where I could publish, though, and I do want to stop neglecting it entirely, so I’m going to begin… somewhat regular Wednesday posts. In this case, since I don’t want to post something I could turn into a PFI product on the blog, I’m instead going to be posting things I want to make but can’t really monetize.

So starting this week, and hopefully continuing each following Wednesday, I’m going to be posting something I’ve converted from something I like into Pathfinder 2e. To begin with, we have the Axe of the Black Labyrinth, from Amid Evil. As Amid Evil is one of my favorite FPS games, I’m probably going to mine it for a lot of content, converting at least all of the weapons and probably also all of the enemies.

As this is “side” content compared to both the stuff I’m putting on PFI (like my recently released Divinity Unbound: Paths of Faith) and compared to my usual way of doing stuff on the blog, it’s Workshop Wednesday Gaiden, meaning something like “side story.” It’s a word that I associate with hidden levels in old games I like, like Fire Emblem (the good ones, not Engage), so I figured it’d be both appropriate and fun to use here.

So now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, I’ll get to the content!

If you like what you see, feel free to let me know in the comments. If you feel like supporting, swing by my Ko-fi and throw me a few dollars. I also offer adventure and fiction commissions if you’re looking for something custom!

Fiction Friday #22: A Whole Corrupted Armory

Welcome back to Fiction Friday, the third part of my regularly scheduled Pathfinder 2e content. In these posts I’ll be focusing on the narrative side of this week’s topic, with either an adventure seed and some sample characters making use of the Workshop Wednesday content, some short fiction, or both!

This week I looked at the Corrupted Relic, an inherently customizable statblock with built-in narrative potential and a good way to deliver powerful loot to your party. On Wednesday I wrote up a handful of alternate corrupted relic statblocks spanning a range of low-to-mid levels, which also played a bit with the proposed ideas about how the spirits inhabiting the relics work.

So today, I’m going to elaborate on those particular spirits, the relics they wielded, and how you might build a sidequest around the entire encounter!

If you like what you see, feel free to let me know in the comments. If you feel like supporting, swing by my Ko-fi and throw me a few dollars. I also offer adventure and fiction commissions if you’re looking for something custom!

I’m also running games on Startplaying.games, so if you’re looking for a game swing by there and take a look at what I’m offering. If you want something I’m not running, feel free to message and ask! I might not be comfortable with your system of choice, but I have a pretty broad range of games so it’s always worth a shot.

Workshop Wednesday #22: Corrupted Relics

Hello and welcome to Workshop Wednesday, the second part of my regularly scheduled content! In these posts, I’ll share homebrew Pathfinder 2e content (often an item, but possibly a feat, spell, another monster, or some other piece of mechanical content) based on the monster we looked at in that week’s Monster Monday post.

In addition to the content itself, I’ll also talk about my design process: why I made the choices I did, my thoughts on the balance of the content, and how it might fare at various levels of play. The mechanical bits, plus a short description, will always come first though, so if you only want to read that and grab it for your game, you won’t have to scroll far.

If you like what you see, feel free to let me know in the comments. If you feel like supporting, swing by my Ko-fi and throw me a few dollars. I also offer adventure and fiction commissions if you’re looking for something custom!

Monster Monday #21: Corrupted Relic

ANNOUNCEMENT
It’s been a while since I last posted! I’m finally past a bunch of big changes and upheavals though, and can get back to a little bit of regular posting, so look forward to that. What’s more, I’m also adding “Professional GMing” to my plate—swing by my Start Playing page to see what I’m offering! Going forward I’ll include the link in the Ko-fi segment, but for today I wanted to put it front-and-center.

Welcome back for another Monster Monday, part of my (renewed) regularly scheduled Pathfinder 2e content. We’re starting off the year looking at a monster that’s not only interesting mechanically, but which is also narratively interesting enough that it inspired my next fiction project: the corrupted relic, a monster created using relic abilities!

Monster Monday #20: Erinys

Welcome back for another Monster Monday, part of my regularly scheduled Pathfinder 2e content. This week we’re going back to fiends, which we haven’t looked at in a little while. Specifically, we’ll be analyzing the erinys, a deadly flying combatant that can also serve a surprisingly subtle role compared to the normal image of a vengeful fallen angel with flaming weapons.

If you like what you see, feel free to let me know in the comments. If you feel like supporting, swing by my Ko-fi and throw me a few dollars. I also offer adventure and fiction commissions if you’re looking for something custom!

Workshop Wednesday #19: Darklands Mukradi

ANNOUNCEMENT
Before the usual preamble, I just want to take a moment to make everyone aware that I’m taking commissions now! The link is in the Ko-fi plug at the bottom of the preamble, so if you like what you see and want me to make something custom for you, swing by and take a look!

Monster Monday #19: Mukradi

Welcome back for another Monster Monday, part of my regularly scheduled Pathfinder 2e content. Normally, I find that the monsters I cover are quite well-designed, with plenty of strengths but more than enough weaknesses to balance them out, though sometimes I do offer what I see as gentle warnings about certain situations in which a certain monster might be less fun for players to deal with.

This week, I’m looking at the mukradi, one of the first creatures I’ve analyzed that I feel is… honestly just way too strong, and really unfun to fight unless the party are significantly higher level than it to counter its ridiculous power. That said, it’s still a really interesting monster, and so it’s one I think is well worth covering and using, with some serious caveats.

If you like what you see, feel free to let me know in the comments. If you feel like supporting, swing by my Ko-fi and throw me a few dollars. I also offer adventure and fiction commissions if you’re looking for something custom!

Fiction Friday #18: The Starving of Andoran

Welcome back to Fiction Friday, the third part of my regularly scheduled Pathfinder 2e content. In these posts I’ll be focusing on the narrative side of this week’s topic, with either an adventure seed and some sample characters making use of the Workshop Wednesday content, some short fiction, or both!

This week I looked at the gashadokuro, an enormous skeletal creature brought about by mass deaths due to starvation and capable of not only mixing things up in melee, but wielding potent area-of-effect abilities. Then, I wrote up the famine seed, an artifact of terrible power that—if left to its own devices for a year or so—creates the exact conditions necessary for a gashadokuro to arise.

Today, I’m gonna be presenting an adventure seed incorporating this new content. Unlike my past adventure posts, this time I’m going to be presenting it in the style of a Front as implemented in Dungeon World.

Throughout the writeup. I’ll include sidebars in gray. These will contain elaboration on certain details in the fiction, offering advice on what details are more malleable and likely to need some attention as you customize the adventure to fit your parties.
